Waku Waku - Fast Food

The Best of Revolutions

In November 2008, Germany's first Bio-Wok Restaurant was opened in Hamburg. The idea was to revolutionise the fast food landscape and moving from cheap, unhealthy food to quick, tasty bio meals. A fashionable concept was required to avoid that the store would be put in the "eco drawer". The concept was designed by Ippolito & Fleitz Group from Stuttgart and implemented by Heikaus GmbH from Mundelsheim. The restaurant's front wall with its purple and white colour and the illuminated Waku-Waku logo serves to draw the looks of all passers-by at once. Glass doors and two large windows to each side of the entrance offer a view of the restaurant itself. The inside colour scheme is dominated by white, combined with a little brown and beige. The counter is painted in the Corporate colour of purple to draw all attention. Various images in white picture frames adorn the white walls of the dining area. A flat screen is integrated into this row of pictures to display current information if desired. It is similarly framed. The seats are made of different materials and colours. Anything from wooden kitchen chairs to contoured plastics chairs can be found here. This provides a refreshing contrast to the room-high clean white bench. The tables for two with their white frames and brushed wood surfaces can be flexibly placed and are equipped with small tubes, in which the oversized wooden spoons each guest receives when placing his order are inserted. Each spoon has an order number that indicates to the serving staff where to put which dish.

According to the corporate philosophy that centres on sustainability, one of the main requirements for the store concept was high energy efficiency for construction and operation alike. Because of this, the kitchen technology used is especially energy efficient. Lighting technology also combines functionality with sustainability by using special, energy-saving LED lamps. The colour of their light dynamically adapts to the time of the day to provide perfect lighting at all times.
